This is Why You Shouldn’t Travel Without Travel Insurance

Consider if you fell from a mountain cliff and broke both arms. This would be an even worse problem if it happened in a third world country where you were vacationing. Once this happens, it is too late to consider getting travel insurance.

If a hospital wasn’t close by, it could take you two days in order to get to a hospital. Reaching a hospital would just be the beginning of the process; getting proper food and painkillers would probably require you to pay a local teenager to bring it to you. Many hospitals in third-world countries often do not supply these items for their patients.

If surgery is required, you hope that you are sedated properly and the procedure is performed with clean equipment. Ultimately, the entire procedure to have your legs fixed might cost only 100 dollars, including your time spent in the hospital. You would leave the country to get home on the next available flight you can negotiate.

Under such circumstances, you may be covered for four operations and six months of physical therapy by your private insurance. Without insurance, these are options that would be unavailable to you. The more exotic your destination, the more likely you’ll be far from good medical care, therefore, your need for travel insurance is greater.

Travel Insurance

If you can’t afford travel insurance then you can’t afford to travel. With the market of travel insurance being so competitive and the costs regularly reviewed and improved, what has always been a necessity when travelling can now be viewed in a pleasant light and no longer considered as a burden for the average traveler and holiday-maker. It is liberating to know that, just in case you’re out of luck, most traumatic events while travelling can be remedied or assisted by the cover you purchase before you leave. This far outweighs the disappointment of wishing you had spent a little extra on travel insurance. The potential risks encountered when travelling or leaving home for a length of time with only a few bags to hold your previous belongings can be daunting especially when you are surrounded by strangers who do not speak your language!

When buying travel insurance remember that the policy wording can be very involved and specific and underwriters are quick to refuse payment should your policy not cover even a single aspect of your insurance claim. There are certain precautions you need to take to ensure that any travel insurance claim you may have will be paid out and these are standard precautions that should keep you and your belongings safer in any case.

These are some of the mistakes that might render you unworthy of a claim: having a different name on your travel documents to those on your passport (for example if you still have your passport in your maiden name and have booked your flight in your married name); not getting a police report to back up your claim; injury incurred while under the influence of alcohol and leaving baggage unattended in a case of theft.

Finding The Right Travel Insurance

While taking trips should be a pleasurable experience, it is best to be prepared in case anything goes wrong while you are away from home. Travel insurance offers peace of mind to travelers, especially in foreign countries. If you or someone in your party becomes ill, looses their luggage, is involved in an automobile accident or inclement weather causes a change in travel plans, there will be someone to help you through these problems if you have purchased travel insurance.

Two types of travel insurance are available. One is annual travel insurance, which is purchased once a year. This plan will cover all your trips for one year. Another one is single travel insurance in which only one single trip for which you purchased the policy will be covered.

Annual Travel Insurance: Yes or No? For an annual travel policy you will be charged one premium per year that covers you for the entire year. For a person who travels frequently in the course of one year, this is generally the cheaper way to go and will save you quite a bit over the cost of multiple single-trip policies. However this cost will be a lot higher than what you would pay for only one or two single policies, so choose carefully. Be certain you know just how often you will be traveling, how many trips a year you will take before committing to this type of policy.
